Homemade Gingerbread House (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - 3 cups all-purpose flour.
02 - 1/4 teaspoon baking soda.
03 - 2 teaspoons ground ginger.
04 - 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon.
05 - 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice.
06 - 1/4 teaspoon salt.
07 - 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened.
08 - 3/4 cup brown sugar.
09 - 1 large egg.
10 - 1/2 cup molasses.
11 - 1 tablespoon water.
12 - Royal icing for assembly.
13 - 1/2 cup shortening.
14 - 1/2 cup butter for frosting.
15 - 4 cups confectioners' sugar.
16 - 2 tablespoons milk.
17 - 1/4 teaspoon vanilla.
18 - 1/8 teaspoon salt.
19 - Assorted candies for decorating.

# Instructions:

01 - Print and cut out gingerbread house template shapes.
02 - Whisk flour, baking soda, spices, and salt.
03 - Beat butter and sugar, add egg, molasses and water. Mix in dry ingredients.
04 - Divide dough, wrap and chill 2 hours to 3 days.
05 - Roll between parchment to 1/4 inch thick, cut house pieces.
06 - Bake at 350°F: house pieces 18-20 minutes, chimney 12-13 minutes.
07 - Assemble walls with royal icing, let set 1 hour before adding roof.
08 - Attach roof pieces with royal icing, add optional chimney.
09 - Let house set 4-6 hours before decorating.
10 - Beat shortening and butter, add sugar, milk, vanilla and salt.
11 - Use buttercream, royal icing and candies to decorate.
