Add blueberries and mint to a sturdy glass or shaker. Press firmly with a muddler or the back of a spoon until the berries burst and the mint smells loud. Stop before the mint tears into tiny flecks.

Squeeze in the juice from half a lime, about one tablespoon, and add the simple syrup. Stir to mix.

Pack the glass with ice cubes. Crushed ice works too if you want a faster chill.

Pour sparkling water to the rim and stir gently once or twice to combine without flattening the fizz.

Tuck a few extra blueberries, a mint sprig, and a thin lime wheel into the glass. Serve with a straw.
