01 -
Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Lightly coat a 9×9-inch glass or ceramic baking dish with nonstick spray.
02 -
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and baking powder.
03 -
Gradually add 1 ¾ cups of buttermilk to the dry ingredients, stirring until you achieve a sticky batter. Add more buttermilk if needed to reach the right consistency.
04 -
Fold in the diced ham and shredded cheddar cheese until evenly combined in the dough.
05 -
Melt the butter in a microwave-safe bowl or directly in the baking dish if it’s microwave-safe. Pour the melted butter into the prepared dish, ensuring the butter coats the entire bottom.
06 -
Spoon the biscuit dough over the melted butter, spreading it out gently. You can use nonstick spray on your hands to make handling the dough easier.
07 -
Cut the dough into 9 squares before baking to make it easier to separate the biscuits once they’re done.
08 -
Bake in the center of the oven for 25-30 minutes, rotating the dish halfway through. If the tops brown too quickly, cover the dish with foil.
09 -
Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center; it should come out clean when fully baked.
