Baked Apple Fritters (Print Version)

Ingredients:

01 - 3/4 Cup all-purpose flour.
02 - 3/4 Cup white whole wheat flour.
03 - 1/2 Cup brown sugar.
04 - 2 teaspoons baking powder.
05 - 1 teaspoon cinnamon.
06 - 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg.
07 - 1/4 teaspoon allspice.
08 - 1/4 teaspoon salt.
09 - 6 Tablespoons butter (cold, cut into pieces).
10 - 1/2 Cup milk.
11 - 1 egg.
12 - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
13 - 1 Cup chopped apple.
14 - 1 Cup confectioner’s sugar.
15 - 2 Tablespoons milk.
16 - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.

Instructions:

01 - Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with a silicone baking mat.
02 - In a large bowl, whisk together both flours, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and salt.
03 - Cut in the butter using a pastry cutter or your hands until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
04 - In a small bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vanilla extract. Add this mixture to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
05 - Gently fold in the chopped apple.
06 - Drop 1/4 Cup-fulls of the batter onto the prepared baking sheet.
07 - Bake for 11-13 minutes, until the bottoms are golden and the center is set.
08 - Remove fritters to a wire rack and turn the oven to broil.
09 - Prepare the glaze by whisking together confectioner’s sugar, milk, and vanilla extract.
10 - Brush a thin layer of glaze over the fritters and broil for 2-4 minutes, until the tops are golden brown.
11 - Brush the remaining glaze over the warm fritters and allow the glaze to harden before serving.
