Homemade Taco Seasoning (Print version)

A quick 5-minute homemade taco seasoning mix using pantry spices. No fillers, fully customizable, and perfect for tacos, meat, and veggies.

# Ingredients:

The blend

01 - 2 tablespoons chili powder
02 - 1 tablespoon ground cumin
03 - 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
04 - 1 tablespoon garlic powder
05 - 1 tablespoon onion powder
06 - 2 teaspoons dried oregano
07 - 1 1/2 teaspoons fine sea salt
08 - 1 teaspoon black pepper
09 - 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

# Instructions:

01 - Add the chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, salt, pepper, and cayenne to a small bowl or a dry pint mason jar.
02 - Use the back of a spoon to crush any lumps, especially in the garlic and onion powders. Dry measuring spoons help prevent sticking.
03 - Stir with a spoon until the color is completely uniform, or seal the jar and shake hard for thirty seconds.
04 - Transfer to a labeled glass jar with a tight lid. Keep in a cool, dark cupboard for up to six months.
05 - For one pound of ground meat, brown it in a skillet, then add 2 to 3 tablespoons of seasoning with two-thirds cup of water. Simmer until thickened.

# Good to know:

01 - Use fresh spices for the best flavor. If your cumin smells like nothing, the blend will taste flat.
02 - One batch equals roughly one store-bought packet, but without fillers.
