Using the same skillet, add the diced onion, minced garlic, red bell pepper, and yellow bell pepper. Sauté for 3 to 4 minutes, stirring frequently, until vegetables have softened and are fragrant.

Stir in the long-grain rice. Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth. Season with salt and black pepper. Bring mixture to a gentle boil.

Return the browned sausage to the pan. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 18 to 20 minutes, until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.
