01 -
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a 9x5 inch bread pan with parchment paper and set aside.
02 -
Chop apples into ¼ inch pieces. Add lemon juice and cinnamon, stir to coat, and let rest.
03 -
Cream together softened butter and white granulated sugar until fluffy, about 3-4 minutes. Add in eggs, vanilla extract, and salt, mix until creamy for another 2-3 minutes, scraping the sides of the bowl as needed. Incorporate flour, baking powder, baking soda, and buttermilk. Mix until just combined. Stir in half of the prepared apples. If desired, include chopped walnuts.
04 -
Pour the batter into the prepared bread pan. Spread the remaining apples on top. Combine brown sugar and cinnamon, and sprinkle over the apples.
05 -
Bake the bread for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Remove from the oven and allow to cool for at least 15 minutes.
06 -
In a small bowl, mix together powdered sugar and milk or cream until smooth. Drizzle over the cooled bread before slicing and serving.
