Easy Salisbury Steak and Potato Skillet (Print version)

Juicy Salisbury steak patties and potatoes simmer together in a rich mushroom gravy in one skillet for a 40-minute comfort dinner.

# Ingredients:

For the patties

01 - 1 lb (450 g) ground beef, 80/20 lean
02 - 1/3 cup plain bread crumbs
03 - 1 large egg, beaten
04 - 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
05 - 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
06 - 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
07 - 1/2 teaspoon salt
08 - 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
09 - 1 tablespoon olive oil

For the skillet and gravy

10 - 1 lb (450 g) baby potatoes, halved or quartered
11 - 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
12 - 1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
13 - 8 oz (225 g) cremini mushrooms, sliced
14 - 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
15 - 1 1/2 cups low-sodium beef broth
16 - 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
17 - Salt and black pepper to taste
18 - Fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

# Instructions:

01 - Combine ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Mix gently with your hands until just combined. Shape into 4 oval patties about 3/4 inch thick.
02 - Heat olive oil in a large deep skillet over medium-high heat. Add patties and cook 2-3 minutes per side until deeply browned. They do not need to be cooked through. Transfer to a plate.
03 - Add butter to the same skillet. Cook onion and mushrooms for 4-5 minutes until softened and the mushrooms have released their moisture. Stir in flour and cook 1 minute.
04 - Pour in beef broth while scraping up browned bits. Stir in Worcestershire sauce. Add potatoes and bring to a gentle boil. Nestle patties on top and spoon gravy over them.
05 - Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer 18-20 minutes until potatoes are fork-tender and patties reach 160 degrees F in the center. Check with an instant-read thermometer.
06 - Remove from heat and let rest 5 minutes so gravy thickens. Season with salt and pepper. Garnish with parsley if desired and serve from the skillet.

# Good to know:

01 - Let the skillet rest off the heat for 5 minutes before serving so the gravy thickens.
02 - Use an instant-read thermometer to check that patties reach 160 degrees F.
