Pizza Burger Pie (Print version)

A cheesy ground beef and pepperoni pie with pizza sauce, mozzarella, and a quick biscuit-style crust baked until golden.

# Ingredients:

For the beef filling

01 - 1 lb (450 g) lean ground beef
02 - 1/2 cup (75 g) finely chopped yellow onion
03 - 2 cloves garlic, minced
04 - 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
05 - 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
06 - 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
07 - 1 cup (240 ml) pizza sauce

For the pie

08 - 1/2 cup (60 g) biscuit baking mix
09 - 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk
10 - 2 large eggs
11 - 1/4 cup (25 g) grated parmesan cheese
12 - 1 1/2 cups (170 g) shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
13 - 24 slices pepperoni, divided
14 - Cooking spray or butter, for the pie plate

For serving

15 - 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley, optional
16 - Extra warm pizza sauce, optional

# Instructions:

01 - Preheat the oven to 400°F. Grease a 9-inch pie plate with cooking spray or a thin layer of butter.
02 - Cook the ground beef and onion in a large skillet over medium-high heat for 6-8 minutes, breaking up the meat, until browned and no longer pink. Drain off excess fat.
03 - Stir in the garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and pizza sauce. Simmer for 1-2 minutes, just until the sauce thickens slightly around the beef.
04 - Spread the beef mixture in the prepared pie plate. Sprinkle with parmesan, 3/4 cup mozzarella, and about half of the pepperoni.
05 - Whisk the biscuit baking mix, milk, and eggs in a bowl until combined and pourable. Pour evenly over the beef mixture.
06 - Scatter the remaining 3/4 cup mozzarella and remaining pepperoni over the top.
07 - Bake for 25-30 minutes, until the top is puffed and golden and a knife inserted near the center comes out without wet batter. Rest for 8-10 minutes before slicing.
08 - Sprinkle with parsley if using and serve with extra warm pizza sauce on the side.

# Good to know:

01 - Let the pie rest before slicing for cleaner wedges.
02 - Cook ground beef to 160°F for food safety.
03 - A 9-inch deep pie plate works best.
