Pioneer Woman Cheeseburger Pie (Print version)

A cozy cheeseburger pie with seasoned beef, cheddar, pickles, and an easy Bisquick batter that bakes into a golden, sliceable dinner.

# Ingredients:

For the beef filling

01 - 1 lb (450 g) lean ground beef, 85 percent lean
02 - 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
03 - 2 cloves garlic, minced
04 - 1 tablespoon ketchup
05 - 2 teaspoons yellow mustard
06 - 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
07 - 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
08 - 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

For the pie

09 - 1 cup (115 g) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
10 - 1/2 cup (60 g) Bisquick baking mix
11 - 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk
12 - 2 large eggs
13 - 1/3 cup sliced dill pickles, for serving
14 - Optional toppings: shredded lettuce, chopped tomato, burger sauce

# Instructions:

01 - Preheat the oven to 400°F. Grease a 9-inch pie plate with cooking spray or a thin coating of butter.
02 - Cook the ground beef and onion in a large skillet over medium-high heat for 7-8 minutes, breaking the meat into small crumbles, until the beef is browned and the onion is soft. Drain excess fat.
03 - Stir in the garlic, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1 minute, then spread the beef mixture evenly in the prepared pie plate.
04 - Sprinkle the shredded cheddar evenly over the warm beef filling.
05 - In a bowl, whisk the Bisquick, milk, and eggs until mostly smooth. Pour the batter evenly over the cheese and beef.
06 - Bake for 25-30 minutes, until the top is golden and a knife inserted near the center comes out without wet batter.
07 - Let the pie rest for 8-10 minutes before slicing. Top each slice with dill pickles and any optional burger toppings.

# Good to know:

01 - Best served warm after a short rest so the slices hold together.
02 - Cook ground beef to 160°F for food safety.
03 - Add cold burger toppings after baking for the best texture.
