Patty Melt Secret Sauce (Print Version)

Savory beef, golden onions, melty cheese, and creamy sauce stacked on toasted marble rye sandwich slices.

# Ingredients:

→ Beef Patties

01 - 680 grams lean ground beef
02 - 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
03 - 1 teaspoon salt
04 - 0.5 teaspoon black pepper

→ Sandwich Assembly

05 - 12 slices marble rye bread
06 - 3 slices cheddar cheese
07 - 3 slices Swiss cheese
08 - 8 tablespoons unsalted butter
09 - 3 Vidalia onions, thinly sliced
10 - 0.5 cup secret sauce

→ Secret Sauce

11 - 60 milliliters mayonnaise
12 - 60 milliliters Dijon mustard
13 - 1 tablespoon barbecue sauce
14 - 0.5 teaspoon hot sauce

# Instructions:

01 - In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, barbecue sauce, and hot sauce. Whisk until the mixture is smooth and fully emulsified.
02 - In a large mixing bowl, gently blend ground beef with Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper until just incorporated. Divide evenly and shape into 6 oval patties of consistent thickness.
03 - Melt a portion of the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced Vidalia onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until deeply golden and soft, about 15-18 minutes.
04 - Heat a separate skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties for 2 minutes per side until browned, ensuring they remain juicy. Remove patties and wipe skillet clean for sandwich assembly.
05 - Spread a thin layer of butter on the outer side of each bread slice to ensure even toasting.
06 - Place half of the bread slices, buttered side down, on a hot skillet. Layer with 1 tablespoon secret sauce, caramelized onions, a slice of cheddar or Swiss, a beef patty, an additional cheese slice, more onions, a second spoonful of sauce, and close with a second slice of bread, buttered side up.
07 - Cook assembled sandwiches over medium heat, pressing gently, until the bread is golden and crisp and the cheese fully melted. Flip once to ensure both sides are evenly toasted. Repeat with remaining sandwiches.

# Notes:

01 - Caramelized onions may be prepared ahead and refrigerated to streamline assembly.
02 - Wipe the skillet between batches to prevent burnt butter residues.
