In a large mixing bowl, whisk together sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until evenly blended.

Add eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract to the bowl. Stir with a spatula or wooden spoon until a smooth batter forms.

If using, gently fold in the chopped walnuts until just distributed.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading evenly. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
