Whisk 2 tablespoons milk with cornstarch until smooth with no clumps.

Heat remaining milk in saucepan over low heat. Add broken chocolate pieces and whisk until melted.

Add cocoa powder and salt. Whisk to combine. Add sugar if desired.

Add cornstarch mixture, whisking continuously until mixture thickens.
