Italian Cheese Breadsticks (Print version)

Cheesy baked breadsticks made with pizza dough, garlic butter, mozzarella, Parmesan, and Italian herbs.

# Ingredients:

For the breadsticks

01 - 1 lb (454 g) pizza dough, homemade or store-bought
02 - 1 teaspoon olive oil, for the parchment
03 - 3 tablespoons (42 g) unsalted butter, melted
04 - 1 teaspoon garlic powder
05 - 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
06 - 1/4 teaspoon fine salt
07 - 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
08 - 2 cups (225 g) shredded low-moisture mozzarella cheese
09 - 1/3 cup (35 g) finely grated Parmesan cheese
10 - 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley, optional

For serving

11 - 1 cup (240 ml) warm marinara sauce

# Instructions:

01 - Preheat the oven to 425°F. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper and rub the parchment with olive oil.
02 - Place the pizza dough on the prepared parchment and press it into a thin rectangle, about 10 by 13 inches. If it pulls back, let it rest for 5 minutes and press again.
03 - Stir the melted butter with garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Brush the mixture evenly over the dough, reaching the edges.
04 - Sprinkle mozzarella evenly over the buttered dough. Top with Parmesan, keeping the cheese layer even so the breadsticks bake through.
05 - Bake for 12-14 minutes, until the edges are golden and the cheese is melted with browned spots. Add 1-2 minutes if the center still looks pale.
06 - Let the breadsticks cool for 2 minutes. Sprinkle with parsley if using, slice into 16 sticks, and serve warm with marinara sauce.

# Good to know:

01 - Let refrigerated pizza dough sit at room temperature for 25-30 minutes before shaping.
02 - Best served hot while the cheese is stretchy.
