Preheat the oven to 200°C and line a baking tray with parchment paper.

Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured work surface until even.

Arrange the ham slices evenly across the surface of the pastry.

Distribute the shredded cheddar cheese uniformly over the ham.

Fold the pastry in half to sandwich the filling. Press lightly to seal, then cut into 2.5 cm wide strips.

Twist each strip and transfer to the prepared baking tray.

Brush each pastry twist with beaten egg and, if desired, sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden and crisp.
