Savory Garlic Butter Beef Skillet (Print version)

A creamy garlic butter beef skillet with ground beef, rice, cheddar, Parmesan, and warm Cajun spice.

# Ingredients:

For the rice

01 - 1 cup (200 g) long-grain white rice, rinsed
02 - 2 cups (480 ml) water
03 - 1/4 teaspoon salt

For the beef skillet

04 - 1 tablespoon olive oil
05 - 1 lb (450 g) lean ground beef
06 - 4 cloves garlic, minced
07 - 1 teaspoon onion powder
08 - 1 1/2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning
09 - 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
10 - 1 1/2 cups (360 ml) beef broth
11 - 1 cup (240 ml) heavy cream
12 - 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
13 - 1 cup (100 g) shredded cheddar cheese, freshly grated if possible
14 - 1/2 cup (40 g) grated Parmesan cheese
15 - Salt and black pepper, to taste
16 - 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

# Instructions:

01 - Combine rinsed rice, water, and salt in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, reduce to low, cover, and cook for 18-20 minutes until tender. Remove from heat and rest covered for 5 minutes, then fluff.
02 - Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook for 6-8 minutes, breaking it up, until browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat if needed.
03 - Reduce heat to medium. Stir in garlic, onion powder, Cajun seasoning, and smoked paprika. Cook for 45-60 seconds until fragrant, stirring so the garlic does not burn.
04 - Pour in beef broth and heavy cream, scraping up browned bits from the skillet. Simmer for 4-5 minutes until the sauce lightly thickens.
05 - Lower the heat. Stir in butter, cheddar, and Parmesan until melted and smooth. Taste and season with salt and black pepper as needed.
06 - Add the cooked rice to the skillet and fold gently until coated in the creamy garlic butter beef sauce. Rest for 2 minutes, then top with parsley and serve warm.

# Good to know:

01 - Best served warm, right after the rice is folded into the sauce.
02 - Use freshly grated cheese for the smoothest texture.
03 - Ground beef should be cooked to 160°F for food safety.
