Easy Air Fryer Grilled Cheese (Print version)

Crispy air fryer grilled cheese with buttery golden bread and a melty cheese center, ready in about 10 minutes.

# Ingredients:

For the sandwiches

01 - 4 slices sturdy sandwich bread, sourdough, white, or Texas toast
02 - 4 slices American cheese
03 - 2 slices sharp cheddar cheese, thinly sliced
04 - 2 tablespoons (28 g) unsalted butter, softened
05 - 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder, optional

# Instructions:

01 - Preheat the air fryer to 370°F for 3 minutes. This helps the bread crisp before the cheese has a chance to leak out.
02 - Place 2 slices of bread on a board. Add 2 slices American cheese and 1 slice cheddar to each, then top with the remaining bread. Keep the cheese tucked inside the bread edges.
03 - Mix the softened butter with garlic powder if using. Spread a thin, even layer on the outside of each sandwich, covering the corners.
04 - Place the sandwiches in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Air fry for 4 minutes. If your bread is very light, secure each sandwich with toothpicks for the first few minutes.
05 - Flip the sandwiches carefully and air fry for 3-4 minutes more, until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
06 - Let the sandwiches rest for 1 minute, then remove any toothpicks, slice, and serve hot.

# Good to know:

01 - Best served immediately while the crust is crisp and the cheese is melted.
02 - Air fryer strength varies, so check the first batch early.
03 - Use thin cheese slices for the most even melt.
