Delicious Crockpot Pizza Burgers (Print version)

Saucy slow cooker pizza burgers made with ground beef, pepperoni, mozzarella, and toasted buns.

# Ingredients:

For the pizza beef

01 - 2 lb (900 g) ground beef
02 - 1 small yellow onion, finely diced
03 - 3 cloves garlic, minced
04 - 30 oz (850 g) pizza sauce
05 - 1 cup (85 g) pepperoni slices, halved or quartered
06 - 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
07 - 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, plus more to taste
08 - 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

For serving

09 - 1 1/2 cups (170 g) shredded low-moisture mozzarella
10 - 8 hamburger buns or soft rolls, split and toasted
11 - 8 slices mozzarella or provolone, optional
12 - 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley or basil, optional

# Instructions:

01 - Cook the ground beef and onion in a large skillet over medium-high heat for 7-9 minutes, breaking the beef into small crumbles, until no pink remains. Drain excess fat.
02 - Transfer the beef mixture to a 4 to 6 quart slow cooker. Stir in the garlic, pizza sauce, pepperoni, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
03 - Cover and cook on low for 2-3 hours, until the sauce is hot and the flavors are blended. Stir once if possible.
04 - Stir in the shredded mozzarella. Cover and cook on low for 10-15 minutes, just until the cheese melts into the filling.
05 - Toast the split buns in a skillet, toaster oven, or under the broiler until lightly golden. This helps them hold the saucy filling.
06 - Spoon the hot pizza beef onto the toasted buns. Add sliced mozzarella or provolone if using, sprinkle with parsley or basil, and serve right away.

# Good to know:

01 - Keep on warm for serving, stirring occasionally.
02 - For a thicker filling, uncover for 10-15 minutes before adding cheese.
03 - Toast buns just before serving for the best texture.
