Sweet Baked Breakfast Grapefruit (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Main Ingredients

01 - 2 grapefruits, cut in half
02 - 1/4 cup (50 grams) brown sugar
03 - 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
04 - Pinch of flaky sea salt (preferably Maldon)

# Instructions:

01 - Decide whether to bake (for softer, thoroughly warmed fruit) or broil (for a quicker preparation with charred tops and firmer fruit).
02 - For baking, heat oven to 400°F. For broiling, set broiler to high.
03 - Slice a small piece off the bottom of each grapefruit half to prevent wobbling. Cut around the fruit sections to loosen them, then place halves on a baking sheet.
04 - Sprinkle each grapefruit half with a tablespoon of brown sugar and a dusting of cinnamon.
05 - For broiling: place under broiler for 6-8 minutes until sugar melts. For baking: cook at 400°F for 15-18 minutes.
06 - Sprinkle with flaky sea salt and serve either warm or cold, according to preference.

# Notes:

01 - Baking grapefruit transforms its naturally tart flavor into something sweeter and more mellow. The longer you cook it, the milder it becomes.
02 - Feel free to substitute brown sugar with white sugar, honey, or maple syrup for different flavor profiles.
03 - The addition of flaky sea salt not only enhances sweetness and balances bitterness, but also adds a pleasant crunch.
