Jalapeño Pepper Jack Burgers (Print Version)

Ingredients:

01 - 1 lbs. lean ground beef.
02 - 3 Hy-Vee Bakery Fresh sesame buns, split.
03 - 6 Hy-Vee pepper jack cheese slices.
04 - 1 medium white onion, sliced and sauteed.
05 - 1 jalapeno, thinly sliced.
06 - 1 small red bell pepper, sliced.
07 - 1 tsp. dried cilantro.

Instructions:

01 - Lightly grease the grill rack and prepare a charcoal or gas grill for direct cooking over medium heat.
02 - Divide the ground beef into thirds and form into burger patties. Make a small indentation in the center of each patty to ensure even cooking.
03 - Grill the buns if desired.
04 - Place the burger patties on the grill and cook, flipping once, until they reach an internal temperature of 160°F. This will vary based on the thickness of the burgers.
05 - Two minutes before removing the patties from the grill, top each with 2 slices of pepper jack cheese.
06 - To assemble the burgers, place sautéed onions on the bottom bun, followed by the burger patty with cheese, jalapeno slices, red bell pepper slices, cilantro, and the top bun.

01 - Tip: Use a meat thermometer to ensure the burgers reach the recommended internal temperature.
02 - Variation: Add some avocado slices or a spicy aioli for an extra layer of flavor.
