Apple Dumplings (Print Version)

Ingredients:

01 - 2 Granny Smith apples.
02 - 1 cup water.
03 - 1 cup sugar, divided.
04 - 1 stick butter.
05 - 1/4 tsp vanilla extract.
06 - 8 canned biscuits (Pillsbury buttermilk recommended).
07 - 4 teaspoons ground cinnamon.

Instructions:

01 - Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Peel, core, and slice each apple vertically into 8 slices. To prevent browning, cover the slices with cold water while you prepare the other ingredients.
02 - In a medium saucepan, combine the water, 3/4 cup of sugar, butter, and vanilla extract. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves, and bring it to a boil.
03 - Separate each biscuit into two layers. Wrap a layer of biscuit dough around each apple slice, slightly overlapping the dough at the bottom to seal it. Place the wrapped slices, sealed side down, in a 9x13 inch baking pan.
04 - Pour the hot sugar mixture over the wrapped apple slices in the baking pan.
05 - Mix the remaining 1/4 cup of sugar with the cinnamon. Sprinkle this cinnamon sugar over the tops of the apple dumplings.
06 - Bake the dumplings for 35 minutes, or until they turn golden brown and the dough is cooked through.
07 - Enjoy these hot apple dumplings warm, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top for an extra indulgent treat.
