Italian Comfort Food (Print Version)

Ingredients:

01 - Flour for dusting.
02 - 8-ounce bag shredded mozzarella cheese.
03 - 16-20 ounces pizza dough.
04 - 6-7 fully cooked crispy chicken tenders, sliced (Tyson Crispy Chicken Strips recommended).
05 - 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese.
06 - 3/4 cup pizza sauce.
07 - 2 tablespoons butter, melted.

Instructions:

01 - Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). If the chicken tenders are frozen, prepare them according to the package instructions. Once cooked, slice them into smaller pieces and set them aside.
02 - On a floured surface, stretch the pizza dough into a 12-inch circle, similar to a pizza base.
03 - Spread 1/2 cup of pizza sauce on one half of the dough, leaving about a 1-inch border around the edge.
04 - Add 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese, followed by the grated Parmesan cheese and sliced chicken tenders on the same sauced half.
05 - Fold the other half of the dough over the filling to form a half-moon shape. Press the edges together to seal the calzone.
06 - Place the calzone on a greased baking sheet and brush the top with melted butter. Cut three 1/2-inch slits on top to allow steam to escape.
07 - Bake for 20 minutes, then remove from the oven. Spread the remaining 1/4 cup of pizza sauce and sprinkle 1/2 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese on top, leaving about 1 inch around the edges.
08 - Return the calzone to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese on top is melted and bubbly.
09 - Let the calzone cool for 5-7 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes:

01 - This Chicken Parmesan Calzone is a great dish for a family dinner or a party snack.
02 - It can be served with extra pizza sauce or marinara for dipping.
03 - For added flavor, sprinkle some Italian seasoning or garlic powder on the crust before baking.
