Apple Butter (Print Version)

Ingredients:

01 - 6 pounds apples, any variety.
02 - 1 cup dark brown sugar.
03 - ½ cup granulated sugar.
04 - 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon.
05 - ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg.
06 - ½ teaspoon salt.
07 - ¼ teaspoon ground cloves.
08 - 1 tablespoon vanilla.

Instructions:

01 - Peel and core the apples, then slice them into uniform ¼ to ½ inch thick slices.
02 - Place the apple slices in the crockpot and add dark brown sugar, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, salt, and ground cloves. Stir well to ensure all ingredients are evenly mixed.
03 - Cover and cook on high for approximately 5 hours, or until the apples are tender and browned.
04 - Use an immersion blender to puree the cooked apples directly in the crockpot until smooth. Alternatively, carefully transfer the mixture to a blender and blend until desired smoothness is achieved. Stir in the vanilla extract for added depth of flavor.
05 - Cook uncovered for an additional 30-45 minutes to allow the apple butter to thicken. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
06 - Transfer the apple butter to clean, sterilized jars and allow it to cool completely. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or freeze for longer storage, up to 3 months.
